Öråkers Gård

THE MANOR

About the Manor

Öråker Manor sits between a charming, old fruit orchard with fruit trees on one side and a heated pool, framed by a semi-glazed sitting area on the other. The pool house has a large sauna with a shower and toilet, and on colder evenings, where better to relax with an evening drink, than by the open-hearth fireplace surrounded by nature?!

The Manor itself has a terrace at its rear and vast gardens with mature trees and hedgerows on all sides, protecting the house on windy days and its inhabitants from any prying eyes. In front of the manor, there is a long lawn of grass running between the wing buildings down to the lake (where an additional wood burning sauna on the jetty awaits the truly adventurous).

The Manor has been renovated to suit the needs of a modern family. Showcasing a mixture of old country style and minimalist modern design, there are 25 spacious rooms with high ceilings spread over three floors. Of these, 8 are bedrooms with 15 beds and 4 bathrooms, excluding the pool house. There are 3 living rooms, 2 dining rooms and a large kitchen with all the modern appliances. This is a house designed for entertaining!

Within a 10-15 minute drive there are 3 top golf courses, amongst them the PGA Masters course at Bro Hof. There are also opportunities for boat trips and other historical or cultural excursions in the area, and of course the city center is a mere 30 minute drive away for the shops, restaurants and nightlife of downtown Stockholm.

History

Öråker Manor in its current form, was built in the early 1790’s. An earlier version that sat a little closer to the lake was damaged by fire and the Manor was reconstructed on its current location on slightly higher ground. Today it is a well-preserved Manor house with a three-story main building and two nearby wings. After several generational changes since the 1790s, the farm is now run by Ebba Horn and her husband, Benjamin Craven. Further interesting information about Öråker can be found on Upplands-Bro Cultural History Research Institute’s website www.ukforsk.se

Sustainable environment

We take our responsibilities towards the environment extremely seriously at Öråkers Gård. The restoration of land and caring for the surrounding nature is a constant effort, and we have attracted a host of like minded individuals and companies to join us. This ranges from donating the use of land for growers, enlisting home owners to recycle kitchen waste using the Bokashi method, to working with farmers and stable owners, all through our company, Agriton AB. You can read more about (in Swedish only) here: www.agriton.se

For several years now, the farm has focused on establishing flower meadows for our winged friends (Öråker honey is delicious!) and started sustainable vegetable gardens using our own fermented horse manure.

For our own self sufficiency, we have installed dozens of solar panels and a woodchip burning system that heats several properties on the estate, stretching from Ladan at the north end of the estate, to the Manor and wing houses to the south. The wood chips come of course from our own forest and the burner system is state of the art, so our carbon footprint is minimal.
